Coinbase Says QR Code Ad Was Its Own Idea

Coinbase’s ($COIN@US) CEO, Brian Armstrong, has attempted to take credit for the Super Bowl floating QR code ad, but his attempts have backfired. Armstrong took to Twitter ($TWTR@US) to say that the floating code was a brainstorming idea that came to life after reviewing a presentation from an outside agency. Unfortunately for Armstrong, Kristen Cavallo, CEO of The Martin Agency, said that her agency actually presented the idea and referred to specific page numbers for the concepts from the said presentation. Chief Marketing Officer for Coinbase, Kate Rouch, claimed that several agencies pitched ideas with QR codes, seeming to double down on what appears to be a fib-gone-wild. Rouch even said that The Martin Agency was let go, seemingly saying that this tiff is nothing but sour grapes. At press time, Coinbase stock was trading at just over $181 per share, down nearly 4% in early activity.
