Students who are stopped by police are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, according to a new study. The study was published in the journal Developmental Psychology and based on research from 387 students. Over a five-week period, 34 students reported being stopped by a member of law enforcement. The study found that students who said they had been stopped became disengaged from school. The students showed signs of not being focused during class or started skipping classes entirely. Lead researcher Juan Del Toro Ph.D, of the University of Pennsylvania, says he is concerned by the results of the study. Saying that it could negatively impact their grades and reduce the likelihood of students going to college.
